From Pirate Darling To Dropbox Alternative: BitTorrent Sync Lets You Keep Your Files Synchronized Across Machines
The days of having to shuttle files between machines on USB sticks seem like a distant memory from a simpler time. Today, it’s all about the cloud. Want to access your files from more than one machine? Nothing could be simpler: Just stick them in Dropbox (and hope there isn’t anotherauthentication bug), or Drive (courtesy of our corporate overlords at Google), or SkyDrive(developed by the benevolent behemoth that is Microsoft). To put it differently, cloud-based file sync services are easy to use and work well, but your privacy may or may not be their first priority. Not to mention the fact that these services always come with a storage quota. You can try to maximize the free storage space, but a quota is a quota. If you’re longing for an alternative, you should check out BitTorrent Sync.
This new service from BitTorrent harnesses the power of the distributed file-sharing network to keep your own private files in sync. It’s not like torrenting your files, though: BitTorrent Sync works with secret keys that let you selectively choose what to share with whom, and even supports expiring, temporary keys. Let’s walk through installing the service and sharing a folder.
Installation: Next. Next, Done!
Installation couldn’t be simpler. It’s not even a next-next-next affair, really, as it only has two steps. Two things are worth noting: BitTorrent Sync is utterly clean of any ads or any other dubious content (and it does not come with a BitTorrent client), and the only sort of special treatment it asks for is making a hole in the Windows firewall:
Initial Configuration
Once installed, run BitTorrent sync to begin the configuration process:
We’ll get to secrets in a moment. For now, pick Standard Setup (the default), and click Next. BitTorrent Sync will then ask you for a folder to sync:
It’s worth noting that you can use BitTorrent Sync to synchronize any folder, not just its own special folder.
Once you pick a folder, BitTorrent Sync will produce a secret for it:
This is a long string of characters which you can then use to connect to this folder from any other device. This is a key difference between BitTorrent Sync and other file-sync solutions: There are no user accounts, and you won’t be asked to create a password for yourself at any point in the process. Rather, each folder has one or more secrets, and that’s what you use to connect to it.
The Tour
Once you pick your first folder to sync and get a password, BitTorrent Sync will show a quick three-step tour:
The first step of the tour shows the control panel, while the next explains you can sync an unlimited number of folders, and files of any size. Finally, BitTorrent Sync shows how you can quickly copy the secret for any shared folder, to share it with family or friends:
Once you finish the tour, you’ll find yourself in the BitTorrent Sync interface proper.
Adding Folders For Sharing
One of BitTorrent Sync’s cool features is that you can add new folders from anywhere on your computer. The Shared Folders tab has an Add button which you can click for this dialog:
Once you add a folder that already contains files, BitTorrent Sync will take a few moments to index its contents. You will already be able to copy its secret and share it with other BitTorrent Sync users. Once I entered the secret for this folder on another computer running BitTorrent Sync, the other computer’s name showed up in the BitTorrent Sync window, and files started going through instantly (they were on the same LAN, but this should work over the Internet as well, assuming you’ve let the installer configure your Windows firewall).
Your Secret: It Really Is a Secret
One thing really bears another mention here: When BitTorrent Sync gives you a secret, it means it. It is a secret. Anyone who possesses this magic string of letters will be able to gain access to the folder you’ve shared, no questions asked. Yes, you will see an unexpected device name in the Devices tab, but that will be too late: By then, the hostile party may already be in possession of your files.
Advanced Secret Tactics
What if you want to allow access to a folder, but not risk anyone deleting or modifying its contents? And what if you only want to share a folder for a limited time? BitTorrent Sync has you covered: Double-click the folder, switch to the Advanced tab, and you’ll get the following:
Here you can see the folder’s existing secret, its read-only secret (for allowing permanent read-only access), and generate one-time secrets. A one-time secret can only be used once, and expires after 24 hours. That’s pretty awesome.
A Very Promising Start
BitTorrent Sync gets a lot of the basics right. Setup is a snap; you can share any folder; you don’t have to create user accounts; and the underlying file-transfer technology is, shall we say, extensively field-tested and proven. Whether or not it catches on as a mainstream means of synchronizing files — only time will tell. But this initial test shows that there’s a lot going for it.

How to Create New partition in Windows 7
If you want to create new Partition in windows 7 without format hard drive , then you can do it by the help of Disk management .
1. Right-Click on My Computer , then Click on Manage .
2. In the Computer management Windows , Navigate Storage , the Click on Disk management .
3. Right-Click on that Partition Which you want to Resize , then Click on Shrink Volume to create New Partition .

Speak to Me!
(Method 1) The easiest way to access this feature is through the Windows speech settings. If you’d like quick access, there’s also a script you can use to access the SAPI via Visual Basic (see below)
Press Start, type speech and click change text to speech settings
Type what you want said in the preview pane and click Preview Voice
Optional: Change the voice (options vary by operating system)
Method 2: Use a Quick Access Visual Basic Script
Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad (Windows Key, type notepad, press Enter)

Windows 7: Map a Network Drive
This tutorial will show two ways you can map a network share as a network drive. By mapping a network drive in this fashion, it will have a drive letters just like a local harddrive. This make access more efficient and convenient. Some programs that are unable to use network shares will function when mapped to a drive using this method.
There are several methods for mapping the network share to a drive. I’ll demonstrate two of these methods.
From Windows Explorer:
1.Go to your Start Menu and then Right-Click on Computer. Then choose the Map Network Drive option.
2.In the Map Network Drive window, fill in or browse for the network share. You will also set the drive letter to which you would like to assign the share.
If the network share has a different login or password, you can use the Connect using different credentials checkbox and fill in your username and password.
3.Click Finish and the drive will map and a new Windows Explorer window will open. The network share will not appear as a drive.
From Command Line:
1. Go to your Start Menu and type command and click on Command Prompt under the Programs section. This will open the classic Command Prompt terminal window.
2.From the command line, we will use the “net use” command. Here’s the command structure with explanation of each of the parts afterwards.
net use drive: \\computername\sharename /Persistent:yes
drive: = driver letter to map share (for example, M: or N:)
\\computername\sharename = UNC path to network share, (for example, \\jimmy7\shared or\\10.100.1.3\shared.
/Persistent:yes = This option will force the drive to remap each time you reboot. Remove this option if you only want it mapped during this session.
Additional Hints:
Using the command line instructions, you can create a batch file and run it from your desktop to map drives when you need them.
Additionally, the following command will unmap a network drive from the command prompt or a batch file:
net use drive: /delete (where drive: = mapped drive, ie E: or N:)

These days everybody has more than one monitor available. However, running a dual monitor setup can be tricky to get working correctly. This tech-recipes tutorial will get you started.

Dual monitors rule! First things first, make sure your computer can support two monitors. The box will need the right outputs for dual monitors. I use a higher end GPU which allows me multiple HDMI outputs; however, Windows 7 is smart enough to use outputs of different types. For example, if you computer has a DVI and VGA outputs, you still can get a dual setup working. Most laptops have an external monitor connection which can be used as your second monitor.

1.Open the Start button on your desktop and in the search bar type Display. Click on theDisplay option when it appears.
2.From this control panel screen select Adjust Resolution on the left.
3.Your second monitor should be detected. If it is not click Detect then Identify. My favorite thing to do is use both monitors as one big desktop. To do this, under Multiply Display selectExtend these displays. You will likely want to make sure your left monitor is set as the main display where your Windows task bar will appear.
4.You can also duplicate the display which clone the image one one monitor to the second one.

Install Pear on Windows 7 64x using WAMP
Installing PEAR on Windows 7 seems simple; however, a few headaches with some recent versions of PHP can leave some people confused. The go-pear.bat file doesn’t exist in some 64x downloads of WAMP and PHP. By following these steps to workaround this issue, you should be able to get Pear installed into your WAMP setup.
You must have WAMP installed correctly first.
1We need to first locate the file go-pear.bat in our WAMP PHP install directory. In the current installation, this is located at C:\wamp\php\php5.3.13 although this will change based on your current version. In WAMP 64-bit versions sometimes this file is not included. Instead we can use the file go-pear.phar which can be downloaded here from pear.php.net.
2Put this file in the following directory:
C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.1.13
(This directory may be different depending on your version of PHP.)
3Now, pull up the Windows start menu, type in CMD, then hit enter. We need to look at the folder we just put the .phar file in, so enter this string:
cd C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.13
and hit enter. We should now be looking in this directory.
4Next, we will need to run this .phar file by using the following command:
php go-pear.phar
5It will ask “Are you installing a system-wide PEAR or local copy?” You will need to type “local” and hit enter. It will ask you to confirm by typing “yes” and hitting enter.
6You will be shown the 12 file locations corresponding to where PEAR will install packages, documents, config files and more. I just leave these on default in my WAMP PHP folder. Press enter to bypass this and accept this.
7You may receive the following error:
This is letting you know your php.ini file doesn’t have the path that you just specified above in the CMD. If you type a simple “Y” and hit enter, the php.ini file will automatically be updated. Go ahead and do this if needed.
8You should be done with the CMD part now. If everything worked correctly, you should be notified that “The ‘pear’ command is now at your service…”
9Next, we need to add pear’s path to make sure that installing packages work. Go to Windows and type in System and hit enter. Click on Advanced System Settings on the left, then under the Advanced tab click Environment Variables.
Edit the Path Variable and append the location to your PHP version folder in wamp:
C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.13;
Hit okay to save it. Be sure to include the semi-colon at the end of the folder path.
10Now open back up our CMD and type in pear followed by enter. If everything is working correctly, you should see pear’s list of commands.
